Facebook Worked on Creating 'Secret' Accounts of People: Ex Employee

LONDON: Facebook, the world's largest social network developed an experimental feature called "Dark Profiles" which would give secret accounts to people who did not even sign up, a new book by a former employee of the social networking site has claimed.

Engineers wanted to create shadow pages for those who were tagged in photos by their friends in the hope they would cave in and join the social networking website, Katherine Losse, the author of 'The Boy Kings: A Journey into the Heart of the Social Network', said.

Nobody at Facebook "even flinched" when staff raised this disturbing new twist as they were so blinded by their mission to take over the world.

The book also claimed that in 2007 Facebook technicians worked on a programme called "Judgebox", which would let users compare and rate women in echoes of founder Mark Zuckerberg's sexist "Facemash" app he developed at Harvard.

It confirms for the first time that Facebook staff have a programme called "Facebook Stalker" which lets them track who has been visiting their profiles, the Daily Mail reported.

And in the early days of the social networking website, employees were given the 'master' password with no security checks at all and allowed to do as they pleased.

These claims have been made in the new book by Losse who worked for Facebook between 2005 and 2010 and worked her way up from customer relations to be the speechwriter for its founder Mark Zuckerberg.

She claimed that in Autumn 2006 everyone at the company was "so convinced that Facebook was something that everyone should have that when the product team created an experimental feature called dark profiles in 2006, nobody even flinched".

People can be tagged in Facebook photos even if they do not have a profile, and the idea was to create a 'dark' version which could apparently be activated if they finally signed up.

"It reminds me now of the way members of the Mormon church convert dead people, following the logic that if they had know about Mormonism when they were alive they would have been believers," Losse wrote.

The claims come at a difficult time for Facebook, it recently sparked yet another backlash after being caught out trying to force its 900 million users to adopt its own email service.

It was accused of 'hijacking' users' contact details and deleting their personal email addresses without asking them first.

Egypt's president-elect to rally Tahrir protesters

CAIRO (AP) ? Thousands of Islamists flowed into Cairo's Tahrir Square to hear Egypt's president-elect make his first public speech since declaring victory in a clear bid to rally popular support as he faces a struggle for power with the country's ruling generals.

Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood is the first Islamist and the first civilian to win the presidency, a job held for nearly three decades by Hosni Mubarak who was ousted by an uprising last year.

But he is already facing a serious challenge after the Mubarak-era military rulers who oversee the transition took a series of decisions undermining the powers of his office before his swearing-in, which was scheduled for Saturday.

His visit to Tahrir is also a nod to the protesters who supported his bid for leadership in a bitter campaign that pitted him against Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq.

Many protesters have called for Morsi to take the oath of office in the square, the epicenter of mass protests against Mubarak and later the continued military rule, but the ceremony was scheduled to be held Saturday before a high court.

His appearance in Tahrir a day before the official ceremony is clearly a nod to the calls for a popular oath.

Egyptians will be watching Morsi's statements to see whether he will accept the restrictions on his power or try to use his position as an elected president to force the military to lift them. His influence is hampered by a court decision that dissolved the country's first freely elected parliament, which was dominated by Islamists.

The ruling generals have promised to transfer power to an elected president by Sunday. But they also have given themselves sweeping powers that undercut the authority of the president. The constitutional declaration ? issued days before the winner of a runoff vote was announced ? also designated the generals the country's legislature in place of the disbanded parliament.

Protesters ? mainly Islamists but also including some of the liberal and secular activists who spearheaded the revolution against Mubarak ? took to the streets to demand that the generals rescind the declaration and reinstate the parliament.

Morsi's spokesman, Yasser Ali, said the president-elect wants to stand with the thousands who have camped in the square for over a week to express concern about the power grabs.

"He wants to confirm that people are the source of his power," Ali said. "He wants to show unity with his people over issues of the transition, which is now ending."

The generals say the moves were designed to fill a power vacuum and ensure that the president doesn't monopolize decision-making until a new constitution is drafted.

They have already said the current head of the ruling military council, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi will be the new defense minister.

Many protesters already have complained that Morsi's agreement to be sworn in before a high court was a concession to the military. Traditionally, such ceremonies are held before parliament, which currently doesn't exist.

"We demand from the president of the republic that he calls off the constitutional declaration, reinstate the parliament as it was, and to stand here among us to be sworn in and swear he has all his powers," said a preacher in the square who addressed the crowd before Morsi arrived.

"From now on, we make our demands to the president of the republic, not the military council. The military council no longer rules Egypt."

Protesters in the square chanted, "The military council should leave tonight," and, "The president takes the oath in the square." Similar protests also were held in Egypt's second largest city, Alexandria, and other cities.

A podium was set up in Tahrir for Morsi's speech, and the area was secured by the Republican guards. It was in the first time in the past 16 months that security forces have returned to protecting the square while rallies are held.

Ali said Morsi's agreement to take oath before the court does not mean the battle to regain his powers is over.

"This is an affirmation that (Morsi) respects the law and constitution," he said. "It doesn't mean approval of the declaration."

Speaking to newspapers editors Thursday, Morsi said discussions continued over how to on how to implement the law dissolving the parliament. The court decision declared a third of the elected seats unconstitutional and Brotherhood lawyers argue it is still possible to only dissolve that third.

"We should be patient with one another, two, three or four years, and try to live together in this atmosphere of freedom and democracy after the revolution," he said, according to comments published in the state-run Al-Ahram daily. "This is definitely a better atmosphere than before. But there are big challenges."

Morsi, the first elected Islamist leader of an Arab country, is also trying to reach out to many of the liberal and secular forces that were behind the uprising. They, along with Egypt's Coptic Christian minority, fear Morsi would work to establish a religious state. Most of those groups are not participating in the protests, although one prominent youth group the April 6 movement has joined the rally on Tahrir Square.

Morsi is consulting to form a unity government, which he promised won't be led by a Brotherhood member.

In the two-hour meeting with the editors, Morsi also dismissed worries that he would work to "Islamize" Egypt according to the Brotherhood vision. He said it was not possible.

"It is impossible to shake the pillars of the state in any direction. I am a president for all Egyptians," he said.

Before heading to Tahrir Square on Saturday, Morsi prayed in Al-Azhar mosque, a symbolic acknowledgement of respect to Sunni world's most prestigious learning institution.

Troops have been withdrawn from Iraq, but U.S. money hasn't

WASHINGTON ? The State Department is planning to spend as much as $115 million to upgrade the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, already its biggest and most expensive in the world, according to pre-solicitation notices published this month.

Remember, it has been 3 1/2 years since American diplomats moved into the 104-acre, $700 million facility and only four months after State Department officials in February talked about trying to cut back the U.S. presence there.

State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations put out a statement Wednesday saying new planning began after it was determined there needed to be "a larger population on the Baghdad Embassy compound, due to the consolidation of satellite diplomatic facilities and property around Baghdad."

The statement added, "The consolidation takes the overall diplomatic property in Baghdad down by one-third, but increases the personnel working and living on the Embassy compound."

The compound sits in the heart of Baghdad's International Zone and houses 1,350 U.S. government employees who work under the ambassador's authority.

According to a June 14 pre-solicitation, the estimated construction cost is between $60 million and $80 million and it is expected to take two years to complete. Among the project elements, along with the central utility power plant, is an underground fuel storage facility holding a 21-day supply and upgrades on a compound-wide water distribution system for firefighting, the domestic water system, the sanitary sewer system, the storm water system and the telecommunications system.

A June 12 notice seeks contractors to rehabilitate space in a classified embassy annex building. They are to build, in an area about 60 feet long and 60 feet wide, a data hall with an office. This must be a highly classified project because the projected cost is between $20 million and $35 million and requires "electrical/telecommunication system upgrades [and] extensive mechanical and plumbing systems."

Potential contractors are asked to show how they "would typically staff a project of this type and size with cleared American workers," meaning those with security clearances.

With the increased compound population, the buildings bureau determined it was "essential to upgrade and repurpose the facility infrastructure, such as the power plant and annex office space, to accommodate the increased capacity," the statement said. And while the pre-solicitation notice carries estimated cost ranges, the bureau said real project costs are not available.

The House subcommittee on national security, homeland defense and foreign operations this week will take up the transition in Iraq from a military to a civilian-led mission. Questions about past and present spending in Iraq, including embassy costs, will inevitably come up.

Rep. John F. Tierney, Mass., ranking Democrat on the subcommittee, said Wednesday that he has "long expressed concern about the U.S. government's significant footprint in Iraq" and looks forward to the panel's continuing scrutiny of "the transition in Iraq and the taxpayer dollars that are being spent in that country."

Last month, State sharply reduced what was supposed to be a multimillion-dollar continuation of the U.S. military's police training program. Where the initial proposal called for State to have 400 trainers, as of last month there were 100. Since the program had little Iraqi support, the trainers, mostly senior U.S. police officials, are living, protected by their own contracted security guards, at former U.S. military forward operating base Shield, which officially is the Baghdad Police College Annex facility.

The United States has spent about $100 million on the facility, having built living quarters, a dining facility, an office building, a gymnasium and a helicopter landing site. At year's end, it will be turned over to the Iraqis because the State Department did not get land-rights use for more than one year.

Multimillion-dollar projects undertaken in past years when U.S. funds flowed freely keep turning up. On June 17, the grand opening of the $15 million al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, "with funding from the U.S. Embassy," was announced in an embassy news release. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called the facility "an important step in the process of state building." But, according to the National Iraqi News Agency story, Maliki never mentioned the U.S. role in funding the complex.

The United States is far from out of Iraq. However, Congress has sharply cut into the administration's original request for $2.26 billion for fiscal 2013. The Senate Appropriations Committee included just $1.1 billion, with the biggest cut being total disapproval of $850 million that was to pay for the Iraqi police training program. The House Appropriations Committee attached language limiting some fiscal 2013 funds until Iraq develops a logistic and maintenance system for its security forces and a sustainment program for donated or purchased U.S. weaponry.

Here are signs that Congress is more closely watching the now-diminished flow of money to Iraq.

Chimps attack Texas grad student at South African sanctuary

JOHANNESBURG ? Chimpanzees at a sanctuary founded by famed primatologist Jane Goodall pulled a Texas graduate student into their fenced-off enclosure, dragging him nearly a half-mile and biting his ear and hands.

Andrew F. Oberle was giving a lecture to a group of tourists at the Chimp Eden sanctuary on Thursday when two chimpanzees grabbed his feet and pulled him under a fence into their enclosure, said Jeffrey Wicks of the Netcare911 emergency services company.

The 26-year-old anthropology student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, suffered ?multiple and severe bite wounds,? Wicks said.

He was in critical condition Friday after undergoing surgery at the Mediclinic hospital in Nelspruit, 180 miles from Johannesburg, hospital officials said.

Oberle, who was doing research at the sanctuary, had crossed the first of two fences separating the chimpanzees from visitors and was standing close to the second fence, which is electrified, at the time of the attack, said Edwin Jay, chairman of the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa.

The sanctuary was temporarily closed after the attack, said David Oosthuizen, the institute?s executive director.

?The safety of our visitors and staff is paramount,? Oosthuizen said. ?We have never had an incident like this, and we have closed the sanctuary to investigate how we can ensure it will not happen again.?

Oberle lost part of an ear and parts of his fingers in the attack, according to the South African newspaper Beeld. It said the sanctuary?s manager, Eugene Cussons, fired into the air to scare the chimps away from Oberle, then chased them back into their enclosure. Cussons is the host of Animal Planet?s Escape to Chimp Eden.

The two chimpanzees were placed in their night enclosure after the attack and will be held there pending the investigation, after which they would be returned to their enclosure, Jay said.

Steve Ross, an ape expert at Chicago?s Lincoln Park Zoo, said chimpanzees are ?naturally a fairly violent species, naturally aggressive, very interested in things like power and hierarchy.?

Even researchers who understand their power, ?sometimes just relax a little bit,? Ross said. ?And you can never relax with these chimps. They are so unbelievably fast, strong, and they?re always looking for an opportunity.?

Ross has worked to raise awareness, but says many chimpanzees are still bred and sold as pets in the United States. People who raise them from infancy often end up trying to place them in zoos when they become aggressive adolescents.

The Goodall institute opened the Chimpanzee Eden sanctuary in 2006 as a haven for chimpanzees, which are not native to South Africa, rescued from elsewhere in Africa. Some lost their parents to poachers in countries where they are hunted for their meat or to be sold as pets, and others were held in captivity in cruel conditions.

According to the sanctuary?s website, one of the animals involved in the attack, a chimp named Amadeus, was orphaned in Angola and brought to South Africa in 1996, where he was kept at the Johannesburg Zoo until the sanctuary opened. The other, named Nikki, came from Liberia in 1996 and was among the first chimps at the sanctuary. Before arriving, he had been treated like a son by his owners, who dressed him in clothes, shaved his body and taught him to eat at a table using cutlery, the website said.

In the United States, a Connecticut woman, Charla Nash, was attacked in 2009 by a friend?s chimpanzee that ripped off her nose, lips, eyelids and hands before being killed by police. The woman was blinded and has had a face transplant. Lawyers for Nash filed papers this week accusing state officials of failing to seize the animal before the mauling despite a warning that it was dangerous.

Claire Jones, spokeswoman for the Jane Goodall Institute, said in an email that Goodall would have no comment ?out of respect for the young man and his family.?

Goodall, a Cambridge University-trained ethnologist, began studying chimpanzees in Tanzania?s Gombe National Park in 1960. Since 1994, her institute has been involved in conservation programs across Africa. The institute says its Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in Congo is the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in Africa.

Should Playmate have received 'genius' visa?

Shera Bechard, the Canadian-born former girlfriend of Playboy Enterprises founder Hugh Hefner, would not be an obvious candidate for the special visas that the U.S. government reserves for "individuals with extraordinary ability."

Playboy magazine named Bechard Miss November in 2010, and she also started an online photo-sharing craze called "Frisky Friday." Neither seems quite on the level of an "internationally recognized award, such as a Nobel Prize," which the government cites as a possible qualification.

But Los Angeles immigration lawyer Chris Wright argued that Bechard's accomplishments earned her a slot. The government ultimately agreed.

That kind of success has put Wright on the map as the go-to visa fixer for both Hollywood and Silicon Valley. It also highlights the use of so-called genius visas known as O-1s and EB-1s, which have largely escaped political controversy and are now the immigration solution of choice for many entrepreneurs.

As many immigration lawyers see it, the paucity of immigration options for the most entrepreneurial foreigners mean they must use any avenue they can. This approach, along with seeming flexibility in Washington on what constitutes "extraordinary ability," means the O-1 is gaining traction in technology circles. Wider use could ultimately land it in political trouble.

For example, the H-1B visa, which allows employers to hire foreigners temporarily in certain specialized fields like technology, has drawn accusations from union groups and others that companies use it to bring in lower-skilled labor.

The O-1 visa allows individuals of "extraordinary ability" to come to the United States for up to three years, and can be extended. British journalist Piers Morgan used one when he replaced Larry King on his late-night TV show, Wright said.

The EB-1 is similar, but leads to a green card and permanent residency rather than a temporary stay, with "extraordinary ability" being one of the ways to qualify - along with being an outstanding professor or researcher, or a multinational executive.

Foreign entrepreneurs have another option - the Immigrant Investor Program, or EB-5 visa - but it requires a capital investment of at least $500,000 and the creation of at least 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers.

By contrast, no proof of personal wealth or investment in the United States is required for the O-1 or the EB-1.

There is also no cap on the number of O-1s that the government can award each year; about 12,280 were approved in 2011, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said, up from 9,478 in 2006. It issued about 25,000 EB-1s last year, below their cap of 40,000.

The H-1B is much more popular. Applications hit their annual cap of 85,000 earlier this month.

Fallback position
While high-profile artists and entertainers have long used the O-1s, they are now becoming a fallback for businessmen and technologists who cannot get H1-Bs.

Josh Buckley, a 20-year-old British-born entrepreneur and a client of Wright's, is among the new crop of Internet entrepreneurs to win an O-1 visa. He applied after starting a few small companies, including one he sold at age 15 for a sum reaching the low six figures, he says.

He got his O-1 last year after lining up letters of recommendation from luminaries including Netscape co-founder and venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and Apple Inc co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Buckley, whose MinoMonsters gaming company is backed by Andreessen, saw little choice other than the O-1. The H-1B was off limits because it usually does not go to people who work for themselves. The O-1, unlike most H-1Bs, also does not require a college education--a key feature for the ever-younger entrepreneurs flocking to Silicon Valley.

Except when it comes to the O-1, visa officials "just don't understand the concept of someone being skilled without 12 years of experience or a bachelor's degree," says John Collison, a 22-year-old Irishman. He dropped out of Harvard University to work on Stripe, the payments company he co-founded with his brother, Patrick.

Like Buckley, he met Wright through the prestigious Silicon Valley start-up incubator known as Y Combinator. He won his O-1 in December 2010 and now has permanent residency status-- as does Buckley.

Wright, himself a South African immigrant, dismisses the notion that some of his clients might not rise to the level of "extraordinary ability."

"There's nothing in those regulations that requires you to be a genius," he says. "It's quite condescending to say, ?Oh, the idiot Playboy Playmates, they don't qualify.'"

At the end of 2010, Bechard posted the first "Frisky Friday" photo on the Twitter microblogging service. Now young women all over the world tweet scantily-clad pictures of themselves on Fridays, with Playboy selecting a weekly winner.

Immigration officials "want to give (a visa) to someone who shows business skills," Bechard says. She also threw in such qualifications as her role as a mute Russian in a 2009 movie, "Sweet Karma," which won her a best actress award at the cult Fantastic Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Qualifications question
Many of Wright's young technology clients have had limited time to show they have "risen to the very top of the field of endeavor," as O-1 regulations state.

But quality rather than longevity is the key, Wright says. USCIS rules require extraordinary ability -- demonstrated by "sustained national or international acclaim" -- that he says his clients can prove with awards and testaments from leading players in their field.

The visas are "a lot of work," he said. "You can't just crank them out at high volume."

Asked about how it decides to grant O-1s, a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service spokeswoman said: "USCIS decides each benefit request on a case-by-case basis relying on the law and evidence provided for that case. There are a variety of factors that influence the number of visa applications received and approved from year to year."

Wright says he hopes that one day, immigration reform will make it easier for talented immigrants, especially entrepreneurs, to come to this country. That is a widespread goal in Silicon Valley, where immigrant entrepreneurs have helped start many leading companies. Google Inc co-founder Sergey Brin, for example, came to the United States from the Soviet Union when he was a child.

Video: Barbara Walters learns the secrets of Playboy Bunnies (on this page)

The immigrant entrepreneurs say that far from taking away jobs, they are creating them by founding companies that may go on to employ hundreds or even thousands of people.

They have managed to find allies even among the harshest critics of H-1Bs.

"The O-1 is one of the few visas we support," said Kim Berry, a spokesman for the Programmers Guild, which favors the suspension of the H-1B program. "When they need to bring in the best and the brightest and the entrepreneurs, that's the only visa that helps America."

Indeed, efforts to make it easier for educated and enterprising foreigners to stay in the United States generally enjoy bi-partisan support in Washington. The complicated status of the immigration issue as a whole, though, has blocked any changes.

"The issue is pretty well understood," said Steve Case, the founder of AOL and now head of the venture capital firm Revolution LLC. "But there is this skepticism around the politics of immigration."

Thus the O-1 will probably remain a key channel for many immigrant entrepreneurs - and it does carry some additional side benefits.

British-born Scott Allison, co-founder of a software company called Teamly, was returning to the United States earlier this month and enjoyed a rare welcome from customs officials after they caught a glimpse of his new O-1 visa.

"'Wow, you must be really awesome,'" he recalls one commenting before waving him through. "I'm like, 'Gee, thanks.'"

Deadly Syria violence, Turkey sends missiles to border

Twin bombs exploded outside the Palace of Justice in Damascus on Thursday as deadly violence raged across the country and Turkey deployed missile batteries along its border with Syria.

With fighting in the 16-month-old revolt increasingly focusing on the capital, world powers were preparing for a crucial meeting on ways to end the conflict and to discuss a plan by peace envoy Kofi Annan for an interim government.

The meeting in Geneva, only agreed after wrangling between Moscow and Washington over the agenda and the guest list, is to be attended by some regional governments but not by rival Middle East heavyweights Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Russia poured cold water on Saturday's meeting, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying Moscow backs a political transition in Syria but rejects Western pressure for the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad.

Three people were wounded when the bombs exploded in the car park outside the court complex in central Damascus, state media reported.

A police source told AFP that two magnetic bombs exploded in two judges' cars and that a third was being defused.

State television showed footage of heavy smoke rising from the site as firefighters battled the flames.

Elsewhere, violence killed at least 69 people, including 38 civilians, on Thursday after one of the bloodiest days of the 15-month revolt left nearly 150 dead, a watchdog said.

Eighteen civilians were killed in the northern Damascus suburb of Douma when troops surrounded it and clashed with rebel fighters, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, adding that 12 were from the same family.

Thursday's death toll also included 23 soldiers and eight rebels, said the watchdog, adding that that regime forces, backed by helicopters, pounded several areas of the eastern city of Deir Ezzor.

Of the more than 15,804 people killed since the uprising against Assad's rule broke out in March last year, nearly 4,700 have died since April 12, when a UN-backed ceasefire was supposed to have taken effect, the Observatory says.

On Wednesday at least 149 people were killed -- one of the bloodiest day of the conflict -- said the Observatory.

Turkey, meanwhile, has sent missile batteries, tanks and troops to the border with Syria as a "security corridor," after Syrian shot down a Turkish military jet last on Friday, media reports said.

There was no official confirmation, but state-run TRT television showed dozens of military vehicles loaded with army personnel reportedly on the move for the volatile border, in a convoy that included low-altitude air defence systems and anti-aircraft guns.

About 30 military vehicles accompanied by a truck towing missile batteries left a base in the southeastern province of Hatay for the border, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) away, the Milliyet newspaper reported.

The Turkish Phantom F-4 jet was downed by Syrian fire over the eastern Mediterranean in what Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said was a "heinous attack" in international waters.

Diplomats at the United Nations revealed on Wednesday that Annan is proposing setting up a Syrian transitional government to include representatives of both sides in the conflict.

The proposed interim authority would exclude officials whose presence might jeopardise the transition "or undermine efforts to bring reconciliation," according to a summary given by one UN diplomat.

"The language of Annan's plan suggests that Assad could be excluded but also that certain opposition figures could be ruled out," said another UN diplomat.

The Geneva meeting was agreed only after protracted wrangling between Moscow and Washington.

US officials had warned that Clinton could stay away from the conference if transition from Assad's rule was not squarely on the agenda.

Russia insists Iran should be part of the solution to Syria's conflict.

"Iran is an influential player in this situation and to leave it out of the Geneva meeting, I believe, is a mistake," Lavrov said on Thursday.

And Assad's fate "must be decided within the framework of a Syrian dialogue by the Syrian people themselves," without foreign interference, he insisted.

Clinton, who will be meeting Lavrov in Saint Petersburg on Friday, rejected any idea that Annan was proposing a transition that was imposed from outside.

"In his transition document it is a Syrian-led transition, but you have to have a transition that complies with international standards on human rights, accountable governance, the rule of law," she said.

The opposition Syrian National Council said, meanwhile, it would boycott any government if Assad remains in power.

Psychology Used In Marketing | School Of Education

Psychology used in marketing now, evoke, this is a term with! What exactly is meant by the term psychological marketing? It is a question of attitude of the researcher! We are the various aspects of IT:

Psychological marketing ? psychology Reverse Psychology is a technique that promote the defense of the faith or conduct that is contrary to the desired too, with the hope that this approach to make the subject matter of persuasion, what truly desired: the opposite of this proposed . This technique is based on the psychological phenomenon of reactance, in which a person has a negative emotional reaction in response to talk about, and so choose the option that is recommended against. Or simply ? if you tell a child who can not do absolutely anything ? it means, and is absolutely without a doubt! Perhaps we will never really grow up to be!

How often do we see advertisements, whether online or on TV or in magazines and newspapers offline media ? say something like ? ?You do not want to read this? ? if you now! Or think of themselves as not the brightest and get a title for the ad that ?the only really intelligent people should read this and you are there but no one says you know, if you?re smart or do not go -!? This product is only for the privileged few ? not here ?and you do so, even if you do not want anything that will reverse psychology offered in the game -. what you are told you can not have ? do you want out of luck wording here ? the art of psychological marketing!

Psychological marketing ? the art of color, it is no coincidence that the big players in the big company advertising departments with large budgets have! Everyone wants their consumption in a way that no one else does not get to. How to achieve this, if people do not really like selling? This is where the psychological marketing with a splash of color ? the choice of the color of rivets your attention on the nervous system and neurotransmitters in the brain sends endorphins, serotonin, etc. released ? the hormone of happiness. Basically, the effect that you feel comfortable and then you! If just looking at the announcement of the product / service that makes you feel good ? you feel as if you buy it! I need it! Artists and interior designers have long understood how color can have a dramatic effect on moods, feelings and emotions. This is a powerful communication tool and can be used to report the action to affect mood and cause to be physiological reactions.

Here is a list of colors and their significance in terms of activity ? through the eyes of North American culture:

Consider the importance of the following colors when used in psychological marketing:

White: Pure. Clean. Young. There?s a neutral color, the purity in fashion and sterilization in the medical profession bring with them.
Black: Power. Elegant. Secret. The color black can target your high-end market or be used in the marketing of young people, to add mystery to your image.
Red: passion. The excitement. Danger. Red is the color of attention, which increases the blood pressure and heart rate. Use red to inject excitement you in your brand.
Orange: Vibrant. Energy. Play. Add some fun to your business if you want to create an entertaining experience for your customers.
Yellow: Happy. Warming. To draw attention. Yellow can be an attractor for your business with a sense of relaxation.
Green: Natural. Health. Abundant. To choose to create a calming effect or growth image green. Go Green Go
Purple: Royalty. Wise. Celebration. Maybe add some purple tones to your look for your company to premium services.
Blue: Loyal. Quiet. Trustworthy. Blue is the most popular color neutral and globally. A safe choice for a building company loyalty. As the most used color for healing the body.

Therefore, companies compete for your business or dollars, to recognize this and use these colors accordingly. As powerful as when your eyes first, that the tissue of the central system will be stimulated!

Psychological marketing ? Reciprocity If I give you something that you could give me something ? or is the general rule, if you are a kind of greedy person! If I give you a free trial of a new skin care product, for example, then you are more likely to feel obligated to buy. Another example is with direct mail: the organization of disabled veterans of America sends requests for money every year to do so many charities ? World Wildlife Fund, etc., sending base does not generate only 18 percent response, but if he without address labels or Custom Christmas Cards adds, if it?s that time of year, it improved by 35 percent. In the negotiations for this principle is at work. If I concede something, retreat to a lower demand, then you are more likely something to give me something of my own. So, starting with the question, have a higher price, you can make concessions and reach the psychological desire to exchange. Similar to the traditional barter, if you want. everything is in marketing psychology in general, the upper end of the Company or the Egyptian Bazaar!

Psychological Marketing ? Article rarity value is always desirable to us because they are less available. For this reason, trumpet marketer of natural one-of-a-kind product or service. ?Limited Time? offer. Shortage can be turned to your advantage. The fact that the customer ?We were informed that there be a shortage of cheese? is to increase jobs, ?Telling customers.? We have an exclusive source who told us that there be a shortage of cheese will ?continue to increase orders. The more the appearance of scarcity, more desire to act quickly before it?s too late.

How many of us go, Wild at Christmas ? shopping tons of food, we do not really need or even want, because it is the time of the year, and we are conditioned to believe that everything is going to be for exhaust and stores Weeks are closed? I?m sure if I could see the sea of hands up, and nods, it would be great! It is the psychological marketing of all this ? unfortunately, it starts earlier every year now!

Psychological Marketing ? Preview I hope the above has given you an idea of what happens ?behind the scenes, magazines, newspapers, Internet marketing, direct marketing, flyers for a dependent, etc. Mailbox chosen words ? the picture or the image shown ? Product and emotion they want to generate is used to the color they choose carefully crafted to feed your psychology Food for thought next time you are looking to make a purchase.!

Parade entry planned for those who served in military

Ashland woman hopes to honor men and women in uniform

By

?Posted:?2:00 AM?June 28, 2012

Simone Coster is looking for men and women who have worn a military uniform or are still serving in the armed forces to march in Ashland's Independence Day parade.

Coster decided to obtain a parade entry for the 2012 annual Fourth of July parade after watching last year's entries and noticing there was little in it to honor veterans or those still in uniform.

"After last year's parade my mom and I started talking about the parade and why we celebrate the Fourth of July," Coster said.

"I grew up in Ashland," she added. "For the majority of my life, I've gone to every Fourth of July parade here. The parade has gotten very political."

Coster, 32, hopes her entry will simply remind parade watchers of the role veterans and those still serving play in American independence, she said.

"I thought it would be something unusual, honoring men and women in uniform," she said. "I also think it would be great if the town could thank them."

Many local residents want to show their appreciation for those who have served, said Coster who described herself as a homemaker and mother of two who is pregnant with her third child.

She has contacted the Oregon Army National Guard at the Ashland armory, which is expected to provide several vehicles and 15 citizen-soldiers for her entry.

Coster, whose grandfather served during World War II, hopes to have at least 40 participants for the event.

"I'm looking for any veterans (or service men and women) to walk in the parade or to ride in military vehicles," she said. "My goal is to just give the 'thank-you' they deserve for what they've done for all of us."

Any veteran or local person still in the military who wants to participate in her parade entry can reach her at 541-292-9020.

She doesn't plan to walk or ride in the entry.

"I want the focus to be on them and what they have done for us," she said.

Women & Co: Give Yourself the Gift of Time: 3 Time-Saving Strategies

By Jacqueline Cadogan, Marketing Operations Manager, Women & Co.

What would you do with an extra ten minutes today? What about an hour? We all know time is a precious gift. No matter how we spend them, the hours, minutes and seconds seem to fly. As a result, we're constantly looking for new time-saving strategies. Are you looking for ways you might be able to shave a few minutes off of your daily routine? Keep reading to learn how ladies just like you get through their to-do lists with time to spare.

"Take advantage of your evening hours." -- Angie, 35, mother of 2, Richfield Park, NY

With busy schedules both in and out of the office, many women face the daily challenge of juggling competing priorities. For tips on how to bring calm to the chaos, I recently sat down with Angie, a 35-year-old mother of two from Richfield Park, New York. Since Angie has a busy office job, she spends her mornings and workdays focused on her job. But how can you maintain razor-sharp focus at work with a family of four? Her advice is take full advantage of your evening hours to ensure calm, peaceful mornings. How does she do it? Strategic-yet-practical multitasking. For example, family dinner is a top priority in Angie's household, but so is a nightly check-in with her mother. To maximize her family time, each night when the family sits down to dinner, Angie opens up her laptop and uses that opportunity to connect with her mom via Skype. Once the kids are off to bed, Angie makes time to enjoy some entertainment and squeeze in a few daily chores, prepping baby bottles and making the kids' lunches while watching TV or listening to the radio.

"Use technology to simplify your life and save precious time." -- Lauren, 30-something mother of one, New York, NY

As a working mom who regularly utilizes technology to increase workplace efficiency, Lauren is always searching for new techie ways to shave time off of her daily tasks and errands. Case in point: as a devout e-shopper, Lauren purchases groceries online through FreshDirect.com, saving herself a weekly trip to the food store. But recently, life got even simpler. Lauren discovered the FreshDirect app which allows her to shop from her previous orders. To reclaim some time (that would otherwise be wasted in line at the grocery store) on the weekend, Lauren uses this handy mobile technology to order her weekly groceries while she waits at her daughter's ballet class each Saturday.

Lauren also saves time by avoiding ad hoc trips to the store to pick up various household items. For basic baby and childcare needs, she hops online and heads to diapers.com. And instead of lugging a 40-pound bag of dog food all over the city, Lauren buys pet food and other supplies at wag.com and they're delivered right to her doorstep. Similarly, Lauren logs on to soap.com for dish soap, toothpaste, toilet paper and all sorts of other household items.

"Sync your family's personal and professional calendars."
-- Barbara, 40-something mother of 2, New York, New York

For a full-time employee, wife of one and mother of two, the calendar can be an invaluable tool. That's why Barbara spends time on the front end logging important dates on the kids' school calendars as well as her and her husband's office holiday schedules into the family calendar. Then, every Sunday night, Barbara and her husband dedicate 30 minutes to discussing the week's logistics. They use the time to align schedules, coordinating office happenings, school events and important family activities. A weekly check-in helps avoid miscommunications and the day-to-day stress that often comes with scheduling conflicts.

Effect of three common diets on energy expenditure following weight loss detailed

ScienceDaily (June 26, 2012) ? In an examination of the effect on energy expenditure and components of the metabolic syndrome of 3 types of commonly consumed diets following weight loss, decreases in resting energy expenditure and total energy expenditure were greatest with a low-fat diet, intermediate with a low-glycemic index diet, and least with a very low-carbohydrate diet, suggesting that a low-fat diet may increase the risk for weight regain compared to the other diets, according to preliminary research published in the June 27 issue of JAMA.

"Many people can lose weight for a few months, but most have difficulty maintaining clinically significant weight loss over the long term. According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2006), only 1 in 6 overweight and obese adults report ever having maintained weight loss of at least 10 percent for 1 year," according to background information in the article. One explanation for the poor long-term outcome is that weight loss elicits biological adaptations -- specifically a decline in energy expenditure and an increase in hunger -- that promote weight. According to the authors, the effect of dietary composition on energy expenditure during weight-loss maintenance has not been studied.

Cara B. Ebbeling, Ph.D., of Children's Hospital Boston, and colleagues conducted a study to evaluate the effects of 3 weight-loss maintenance diets on energy expenditure, hormones, and components of the metabolic syndrome. The study, conducted between June 2006 and June 2010, included 21 overweight and obese young adults. After achieving 10 percent to 15 percent weight loss while consuming a run-in diet, participants consumed an isocaloric low-fat diet (60 percent of energy from carbohydrate, 20 percent from fat, 20 percent from protein; high glycemic load), low-glycemic index diet (40 percent from carbohydrate, 40 percent from fat, and 20 percent from protein; moderate glycemic load), and very low-carbohydrate diet (10 percent from carbohydrate, 60 percent from fat, and 30 percent from protein; low glycemic load) in random order, each for 4 weeks. The primary outcome measured was resting energy expenditure (REE), with secondary outcomes of total energy expenditure (TEE), hormone levels, and metabolic syndrome components.

The researchers found that energy expenditure during weight-loss maintenance differed significantly among the 3 diets. The decrease in REE from pre-weight-loss levels, measured by indirect calorimetry in the fasting state, was greatest for the low-fat diet (average relative to baseline, -205 kcal/d), intermediate with the low-glycemic index diet (-166 kcal/d), and least for the very low-carbohydrate diet (-138 kcal/d). The decrease in TEE also differed significantly by diet (average -423 kcal/d for low fat; -297 kcal/d for low glycemic index; and -97 kcal/d for very low carbohydrate).

"Hormone levels and metabolic syndrome components also varied during weight maintenance by diet (leptin; 24-hour urinary cortisol; indexes of peripheral and hepatic insulin sensitivity; high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol; non-HDL cholesterol; triglycerides; plasminogen activator inhibitor 1; and C-reactive protein), but no consistent favorable pattern emerged," the authors write.

"The results of our study challenge the notion that a calorie is a calorie from a metabolic perspective," the researchers write. "TEE differed by approximately 300 kcal/d between these 2 diets [very low-carbohydrate vs. low-fat], an effect corresponding with the amount of energy typically expended in 1 hour of moderate-intensity physical activity."

"These findings suggest that a strategy to reduce glycemic load rather than dietary fat may be advantageous for weight-loss maintenance and cardiovascular disease prevention. Ultimately, successful weight-loss maintenance will require behavioral and environmental interventions to facilitate long-term dietary adherence. But such interventions will be most effective if they promote a dietary pattern that ameliorates the adverse biological changes accompanying weight loss," the researchers conclude.

Children's Health & Fitness ? Childhood Obesity A Concern To Be ...

June 25th, 2012 by Len Saunders

From The Journal Courier?..

It used to be that schoolteachers taught the three R?s: Reading, writing and ?rithmetic.

Now, the nation?s doctors say they want schoolchildren to learn about another subject: Obesity.

Meeting last week in Chicago, the American Medical Association agreed to support legislation that would require classes about the causes, consequences and prevention of obesity for students from first grade all the way through high school. AMA officials say the instruction is needed to help prevent obesity among children and teenagers.

Doctors at the AMA meeting used statistics and personal anecdotes in their effort to get the association to sharpen its focus on obesity prevention. A Texas pediatrician talked about how common it has become for her to see 1-year-olds weighing 40 pounds in her practice.

The legislation supported by the AMA was drafted by its Pennsylvania delegation. It cited data showing that more than 300 million people worldwide are obese and said requiring nutrition education to prevent obesity never has been proposed.

Obesity affects more than one-third of U.S. adults and almost one in five children, or more than 12 million kids. Recent evidence suggests those numbers may have stabilized, but doctors say that?s small consolation when so many people still are too fat.

Arts and Entertainment | Jonthan DImmock ? Concert Artist

I realized, when I climbed inside a car yesterday, that it was the first time in six days that I had been inside a moving vehicle. At first, I thought that this shouldn?t seem odd at all, until I realized that, quite possibly, never in my adult life (since college) had I gone that length of time without getting into a car, a subway, a train, a bus, or onto a bicycle. I?m in the mountains of North Carolina and have been teaching, practicing, socializing with other faculty, and taking hikes ? but all within the space of that which I could reach with my own two feet. I must say, there?s a kind of (ironic) freedom I?ve found in being released from our ready-to-go modes of ushering ourselves around the planet. A pattern of simplicity, attention to detail, and general sense of comfort in my own skin has ensued.

Getting into a car to drive into town, yesterday, felt fast; everything went by in a blur. I noticed a subtle sense of regret, as things sped by me, that I couldn?t stop and admire them more. I think we?re all generally resigned, or even inured, to this reality of our lives. Most of the Western world live in societies that ?go? based on the basic premise of motorized transportation. I just read a statistic that the average American spends 90% of his/her lifetime inside buildings. I daresay that at least 8% of the remaining 10 are spent in modes of transportation. Maybe 2% of the day is spent outside (my guess). Well, if that?s our reality, the question that I would want to ask is: What effect does this have on the way we approach music and the arts?

I titled this blog ?Arts and Entertainment? because that?s the name of one of the sections of the New York Times; it?s also an apt description of how we have become consumers of the Arts. Most Americans probably view music as either advertisement or entertainment. As such, it seems omnipresent. Small wonder, then, that so many people are oblivious to how distracting a lively conversation can be when it?s within three feet of a person making music (and how many countless times have I experienced that?). I?m not opposed to the idea of entertainment. We all need down time when we can be amused. The difficulty arises when I recognize that I, for one, did not develop my musical gifts so that I could be an entertainer. Entertainment implies passivity. But the Arts demand a response, a reaction. The power of the Arts, including the ability to be transformative, healing, challenging, even educational, is only partially employed when relegated to entertainment.

I began this little blog thinking about speed and modes of motorized transportation. I propose that being overwhelmed by sensory stimulation, brought about by speed of transport, is at least partially responsible for the diminution of the power and effectiveness of the Arts. But, given that transportation needs will not perceptibly change in the near future, I believe that all artists need to address their audiences about the subject of intentionality, active engagement with the art form they are encountering. What does the art bring to mind/heart? How does the art change one?s view about something or someone? Is the art experienced as beauty, and if so, how are we touched? Is the art transformative? Does it incite us to do something? Is it healing? Does it open an interior vision of the cosmos? Is there any way the audience can respond directly with the artist? If not, how does my immersion into beauty effect my civic awareness? (The subject of neuroesthetics tackles this very issue.)

Salsa Bristol Presents: All Day Workshops With The Infamous Frank Santos! at South Bristol Sports Centre on 24th Jun 2012

Lineup and details for Salsa Bristol Presents: All Day Workshops With The Infamous Frank Santos! on Sunday 24th June 2012

Sunday 24th June 2012

Salsa Bristol Presents: All Day Workshops With The Infamous Frank Santos!

3 Bachata Classes and 2 Salsa Classes

Many of you will know Frank Santos or known of him before he moved to Estonia several years ago. Frank was without doubt the most sought after Bachata teacher in the country and we amongst many others were sad to see him leave as he left a large void on the Bachata scene.

Ever since Frank left, Salsa Bristol has tried to book him to teach back here in Bristol whenever he was visiting but dates never quite matched. Well good news! we have now booked Frank for the whole day on Sun 24th June for 3 Bachata classes and 2 Salsa classes!

Places are limited to 36 people as we want the very best learning experience we possibly can from Frank, rather than pack the venue full and half the people can't see his instruction.

Since Frank left the UK we have often booked Richard Harris, another of our favourite teachers, for workshops and all day events. So, if youve attended these and you like Richards style, his teaching and his dancing then DO NOT MISS THIS!

Frank Santos was the person who first discovered Richard and was both his teacher and director of the award winning dance troupe, 'A Yemaya' where Richard and Miguel Monteiro were members. We know Richard greatly admired Frank and has visited him numerous times in Estonia.

Like we have said, DO NOT MISS THIS ONE! Frank has not moved back to England he is just visiting!

Internet group picks little-known executive as CEO

NEW YORK (AP) ? A businessman with experience in building consensus will be the next CEO of the Internet agency in charge of contentious policies surrounding Internet addresses.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which is pushing through a major change in the way Web and email addresses are structured and assigned, announced Fadi Chehade's appointment Friday. He will replace former U.S. cybersecurity chief Rod Beckstrom as chief executive.

In selecting Chehade, ICANN went with someone who isn't well known and isn't well versed in the organization's core tasks ? keeping the Internet address system running smoothly.

Chehade does, however, have a knack for diplomacy. In the early days of e-commerce, he persuaded leading tech companies such as IBM and Hewlett-Packard to collaborate on a system called RosettaNet for exchanging data, even as they competed for customers. ICANN Chairman Steve Crocker said those achievements outweighed the drawbacks.

In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press ahead of the announcement, Chehade, 50, said his work at RosettaNet prepared him for the new role.

"The thrill and the satisfaction of bringing people around some common understanding is tremendous," Chehade said. "I have a personal and deep love of bringing consensus."

He said that when executive recruiters contacted him about the position at ICANN, "I immediately had flashbacks of how much I enjoyed doing a job that everybody told me was impossible and difficult."

As CEO, Chehade will receive a base salary of $560,000 plus up to $240,000 in bonuses based on merit. He is tentatively set to start Oct. 1. His tenure lasts until July 1, 2015.

Beckstrom leaves ICANN this July 1. Chief Operating Officer Akram Atallah will serve as CEO in the interim.

One of Chehade's chief tasks will be guiding the largest expansion of the Internet address system since its creation in the 1980s. The change affects how people find Web sites or send email and could lead to more options for businesses as easy-to-remember ".com" names are harder to obtain.

ICANN has received 1,930 proposals for 1,409 different domain name suffixes, including ".love," ''.google" and ".music." They would rival ".com" and others now in use. A florist called Apple can't use "apple.com" today because the computer company has it, but the shop might get "apple.flowers" one day.

Even after a decade of debate, however, the expansion still faces criticism, much of it from trademark holders who worry about having to police the Internet for addresses that misuse their brands.

"Anything new like this is going to create angst and controversy, and it's going to create opportunity," Chehade said.

ICANN is also in charge of assigning the numeric Internet Protocol addresses used to identify computers, smartphones and other Internet-connected devices. And it faces perennial calls for the United Nations to take a greater role in crafting Internet policies. Although ICANN has board members from around the world, it is headquartered in Los Angeles and gets its authority from the U.S. government, which funded much of the Internet's early development.

Chehade has some international experience, having served for a year in Dubai as IBM general manager for global technology services for the Middle East and North Africa. Born in Lebanon and of Egyptian decent, he speaks English, Arabic, French and Italian. He lives in Los Angeles and became a U.S. citizen in 1986.

Chehade moved to the U.S. in 1980 at age 18. Smuggled out of Beirut, he arrived in Los Angeles with $482 and worked two restaurant jobs there before attending Polytechnic Institute of New York on a scholarship. After graduating with a computer science degree in 1985, he got a master's in engineering management from Stanford University a year later.

He worked at Bell Labs before starting a company, Nett Information Products, in the early 1990s. The company offered services that used Lotus Notes software to let companies collaborate with partners over proprietary networks. Ingram Micro Inc., a distributor of information-technology products, bought the company in 1996 and tasked Chehade with adapting the services to run over the Internet.

It was there that he built software for computers from various companies to talk to one another with little human intervention. For instance, when CompUSA places an order through 3Com Corp.'s website, 3Com's computers automatically contact Ingram Micro's machines to ship the products to CompUSA.

That system was custom built. Its success prompted Chehade to create standards ? such as common ways for proprietary systems to define shopping baskets ? so that it could be used by hundreds or thousands of businesses.

That effort evolved into RosettaNet, which brought together leading, sometimes-competing companies such as Microsoft Corp., SAP AG, Oracle Corp., IBM Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., Dell Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc., along with FedEx and UPS.

"I had to get all these Silicon Valley giants in a room and convince them that if their machines talk to each other, we don't lose a competitive advantage," Chehade said.

After leaving RosettaNet in 2000, Chehade created Viacore Inc., which offered supply-chain management services to businesses that didn't want to build their own systems in-house. IBM bought the company in 2006 and hired Chehade. He left IBM in 2009, after spending a year in Dubai. After a brief stint as CEO of CoreObjects Software Inc., Chehade became head of Vocado LLC, which makes software for educational institutions.

Atallah, the No. 2 executive at ICANN, was Chehade's deputy at CoreObjects. They had also known each other as children; both served in the boy scouts in Lebanon.

Chehade credited the Internet with helping him stay in touch with childhood friends, many of whom scattered around the world because of a lengthy civil war in Lebanon during the late 70s and 80s. He said his "personal and professional passion about the value of the Internet" will lead him to favor policies that keep the Internet free from unnecessary restrictions.

At a news conference in Prague announcing his appointment, Chehade added, "I'm here because I owe the Internet everything that I've achieved today."
