Peter Berg may still be licking his wounds after the critical torpedoing and box office disappointment of Battleship. But that hasn?t putting him off developing new projects, and he?s returning to the source of one of his greatest filmic triumphs, adapting Buzz Bissinger?s new book, Father?s Day.
The tome, which hit bookshelves in May, is from the author of American Football classic Friday Night Lights, baseball book 3 Nights In August and his other sports titles - but it's a very different affair. Father?s Day focuses on Bissinger's relationship with his twin sons, one of whom has serious learning difficulties.
The plot of the book hinges on a road trip Bissinger took, one that helped him better understand his son. Sounds like it could be solid source material for a new drama and thankfully not one of those awful holiday-themed ensemble rom-coms.
Berg, who successfully brought Friday Night Lights to screens both big and small, has taken the potential movie to Universal, where he has a first-look deal. He?s also gearing up to make Navy SEAL pic Lone Survivor with Taylor Kitsch, Mark Wahlberg and Ben Foster.
