According to a news report with Kare 11, the Good Samaritan Society of Waconia has a substantiated complaint with the Minnesota Department of Health after a worker did not perform CPR or call 911 as required by advanced directives.
Many of the deaths I have seen in handling nursing home abuse and neglect cases throughout Minnesota is a common theme of a failure to call for emergency care when there is a change in the resident or patient?s condition. All nursing home, assisted living, group home and other facilities which care for vulnerable or elderly people should have a current ?911? and ?Emergency Response Policy?. It is simple if someone who seek emergency care in at home for similar symptoms a facility should do the same, unless there are specific instructions in by the patient, POA or guardian in situations such as hospice.
