The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has announced that it are now accepting applications for two U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs aimed at fostering mutual understanding and developing leadership skills.
The programs provide Iraqi students and academics with networking and professional development opportunities with their American peers and colleagues. These programs work to support the goals of the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the connections between the people of the United States and Iraq.
Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP): This program will provide 170 Iraqi high school and undergraduate students a unique exchange experience in the United States during summer 2013. The high school program is a four-week youth leadership exchange for Iraqi teenagers ages 15-17 and Iraqi adult mentors.
The undergraduate program is a six-week leadership exchange program for students in their first, second, and third years of university. Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program: The Fulbright Program will bring 35 junior Iraqi scholars to U.S. institutions from June 29 through September 7, 2013, for faculty development, mentoring, and cultural exchange activities. The program is open to full-time Iraqi university faculty with fluency in English and a strong commitment to classroom teaching.
Scholars in the program can focus on one of the following fields of study: Science and Technology, Engineering, TEFL/Linguistics, Political Science and American Literature. There is no cost to apply to these programs. The U.S. Department of State will fully fund participants? travel, educational program costs, health insurance, and housing.
