Many women suffer from heartburn and often suffer silently because? well we are women and are too busy to figure out what is going on with the pain. Heartburn can be a real headache when it keeps you from sleeping, exercising, or doing your activities of daily living.
Heartburn can be caused by several things including diet, ulcers, pregnancy and even heart disease. Reflux and hiatal hernia are two other conditions that may be diagnosed that cause heartburn that can be rather serious and may not always be treated with over the counter medications.?
If you suffer with heartburn more than once or twice a week and you cannot? relate it to hot spicy food intake then you should seek the advice of your health care provider to determine the cause.
Over the counter antacids work well for occasional heart burn symptoms and there are also over the counter medications like Tagamet or Zantac that? can be taken daily. But before you diagnose yourself, speak with your physician. Even over the counter medications have side effects and are considered?strong?medications so self treating may be the wrong thing to do? especially if the heartburn is related to heart disease. And women do suffer from cardiac issues ( more about this in another post).
The message that you need to take away from this is that heartburn is?a signal that something is going on with your body and your health. Take heed and seek treatment.
Avoid spicy foods, carbonated beverages, and other food products that increase the pain. And if you are stressed, consider being evaluated for an ulcer. Pregnancy is one of the conditions that when your baby comes the heartburn may go away. Any other severe and continued occurrence of heart burn should be checked out. It matters to your health.
